On January 1, 2022, the BC government implemented five (5) days of mandatory paid sick leave for all workers in BC. Eligible UBC employees are entitled to these five days (adjusted based on full-time equivalency (FTE)) at the start of each year.
Effective May 1, 2022, the government further amended the application of paid sick leave to apply to all employees, irrespective of any entitlement in a collective agreement.

Newly eligible employees will see a reduction in their Paid Sick Time Off in Workday and a potential negative Paid Sick Time Off balance depending on the amount used and earned in 2022. HR Administrators who need to adjust the Legislative Sick Time Off balances in Workday can do so using the Adjust Employee's Time Off Balance (Maintain Accruals) process.
