Resources for inclusive recruiting

Inclusive recruiting starts with writing inclusive job descriptions and postings. UBC staff and faculty with a CWL can use Textio, an online platform that helps you avoid bias when writing recruitment materials, including job descriptions and job postings. Using Textio may help your job opportunities appeal to a broader, more diverse pool of applicants.

How to use Textio

Login to Textio with your UBC email address, then copy and paste your job posting into Textio. The tool will highlight words that limit the appeal of your posting and suggest alternatives for improvement. There will be bullet points on the right-hand side of the page that will highlight recommendations.

When preparing a job post, you can specify the job and location under the document title. This allows you to see how many job posts your posting is being compared to.

For privacy reasons, ensure you only use public-facing documents in Textio. Please adhere to the following:

  • Do not upload documents with confidential information.
  • Do not publish documents you wish to keep private (instead, keep them in draft form).
  • Refrain from looking at documents shared by people outside your group, unless it specifies it's for all use.

Create and review job descriptions in Textio before sending them to the Compensation team for review and classification.
